Orcas vs Marlins

24 August Moewai Park

17th August

The Marlins hosted the Tairua Thunderbolts on a drizzly Saturday morning. The Marlins were made to work for their first goal with Tairua's defence proving resolute. However, the Marlins stuck to the game plan and soon found gaps and the goals started flowing. Congratulations to Sanio Chiet who picked up player of the day for his distribution of the ball throughout the whole game.

This was by the far the most well rounded and polished performance of the season by the Marlins. A real testiment to the dedication and hard work they have been putting in at practise.

10th August

Mercury bay 10th grade Orcas played an away again in Hauraki against Hauraki lions. Was great day for football and nice to get out of town for the first time in a while for our team. Great watching the boys putting into action everything they have learned over the season, really focusing and working as a team to sink the ball in the back of the net. Fantastic passing and moving the ball across the field to create space and control the play.  Today’s player of the day went to Jaxon Davies, he’s been working hard and has come along way this season and his commitment to the ball was awesome to watch today.

3rd August

Great game of football today for the 10th grade orcas vs Whangamatā on home turf. So great to see the boys working hard as a team, supporting each-other and applying everything they have learnt so far this season. Our player of the day Cooper Wood  was on fire today, showing great sportsmanship and sinking a few goals at the same time.

27th July

The 10th grade Marlins took on a challenging Whenukite outfit on Saturday and what a spectacle it was. Pulsating action from one end of the pitch to other that saw the ball find the back of the net on multiple occassions from both teams. Jessica Allen took out the player of the day for her tenacious defence and covering almost every blade of grass on the pitch.

27th July
Mercury bay 10th grade Orcas played the toughest game yet of the season against Te Rerenga on a beautiful Saturday morning at Moewai sports park. It was a fantastic game to watch with amazing offense and defence from both teams and a really close nail bitting game, some amazing attempts at goals from the orcas but none that sunk in the back of the net, Te Rerenga working hard to get through our defence line managing to score a couple of goals. So much skill was shown from all our players that have had a great season so far, it’s really awesome to see the boys putting to practice what they have learnt this season so far and really working as a team. Our player of the day went to Dom Thomassen who played a great game of football showing relentless pressure and setting up some great plays.

July 6

Mercury Bay 10th grade Orcas played a home game against Thames Gladiators and what a great game of football. Great defence and attacking from both sides for a very close game! Gladiators pressure was felt and made Mercury bay work harder as a team and they had to play the whole field to keep control, the goalies worked hard and deflected a number of shots taken which kept them on their toes.

Levi Szparagowski came away with player of the day not letting up to the pressure and giving it his all, he was also our top scorer of the day.

July 6

A chilly morning greeted the traveling 10th grade Marlins who made the trip over the hill to play Hauraki. The opening minutes proved to be an even contest with both teams having equal opportunities. However, the Marlins' passing and structural play proved too much for the Hauraki defence and the Marlins found the net multiple times. Sarico Chiet was player of the day for his shooting accuracy and hatrick of goals.

June 22

The Mercury Bay Marlins played a tough encounter against a spirited Te Rerenga side on Saturday. It was a very back and forth contest with the score level at half time. The intent from both sides was very physical and not much could seperate the teams from one of the games of the season. Archer Jowsey was awarded the player of the day for his tenacious attack on the wing and through the centre of the park.

June 21

10th grade Mercury Bay Orcas, played their 1st game under the lights on Friday night in Tairua at Cory park. A great experience to play under the lights and the boys were all pumped, amazing football to watch from all our players they didn’t cave to the pressure and fought hard to sink their goals thanks to the awesome defence held by Tairua. Great team work all round by all our players they should all be proud of the game they played , our player of the day went to Cody Spyve who gave it his all and really kept the pressure on for Tairua till the very end.

June 8

The Mercury Bay Marlins jumper over the hill to play the Paeroa Rangers in glorious sunshine. This was the first real test for the Marlins with the Rangers opening the scoring early. The first half proved to be an exciting encounter with each team finding the net multiple times. The second half saw the game open up with the Marlins capitalising on a tiring defense.

Chase Whitford played his heart out on the right wing and earned himself Player of the Day.

The Mercury Bay Marlins took on the Whangamata Rattlesnakes in perfect playing conditions at Moewai Park. The Marlins were able to break the defence apart with ease, finding the net on multiple occasions. It was a great game to get players playing in different positions with three players scoring their first goals of the season. Congratulations to Zac Corkill who picked up player of the day for his first goal and improving defensive play.

Saturday the 18th of May saw the two Mercury Bay FC 10th grade teams face off against each other, and the game didn't disappoint. There was action aplenty and the game was at times played with relentless speed. It was very hard to fault both team's performance with the ball finding the back of the net more than 10 times between the two teams. Coaches labelled the game the best junior football they had seen. Thanks to all parents and supporters to came to support in the glorious sunshine. Players of the day went to Nash Martin and Anuhea Sacult.

It didn't take long for the Marlins to find their groove, stringing together some great passes and finding the net on multiple occassions. Our player of the day went to Kian Biesheuvel for really growing into his role in defence.
